How the totals work

Each business type has a starter kit of essential and optional items. Tick what you need, pick the machine you’re considering and change any price or quantity. Three totals update as you go:

lean kit = Σ lowest price × qty (ticked items) your kit = Σ your cost × qty (ticked items) loaded kit = Σ highest price × qty (ticked items) months to recover = kit total ÷ monthly profit

For machines and accessories, “lowest” and “highest” are the cheapest and most expensive manufacturer list prices among the products we’ve researched in that category, and your cost starts at a mid-range model. For materials, the range is an example quantity of real supplier prices (half to double). Everything else is a budget assumption — marked Budget guess — that you should replace with a real quote.

Assumptions you should check

  • List prices, not street prices. Machines are often discounted or bundled; check the retailer before you buy. Products without a published list price are left out of the ranges.
  • Safety isn’t optional for lasers and DTF. Fume extraction, eyewear rated for your laser’s wavelength and a fire extinguisher are marked essential for laser shops; ventilation and gloves for DTF.
  • Months to recover uses the monthly profit you type in — an example figure until you model your own with the ROI simulator. It ignores taxes and the time it takes to find buyers.
  • Not included: a computer, workspace rent, electrical work, insurance, and your time learning the machine.
