For a US seller, a typical Etsy sale costs a $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee on item price plus shipping, and 3% + $0.25 payment processing on the order total including tax. That's roughly 9.5% + $0.45 per order. Orders from Etsy's Offsite Ads add 15% (or 12% for shops over $10,000 a year), capped at $100.

Add up materials, packaging, your time, a machine-hour charge and an overhead share, add the profit you want, then divide by one minus the marketplace's percentage fees. On Etsy that divisor is 0.905 (6.5% transaction + 3% processing), plus $0.45 in fixed fees. Then sanity-check against what buyers pay for similar items and raise the price if value supports it.

Printing DTF in-house costs about $0.67 per square foot in consumables in our example, versus $2.50–$3.02 per square foot for retail gang sheets from U.S. suppliers. Once you add your time, a $2,799 desktop printer needs roughly 2,000+ square feet to break even. That makes sense at steady volume, not for a few shirts a week, and white-ink upkeep is a daily job.

It can be. In our tumbler example ($32 item + $7 shipping on Etsy, $7.16 blank), about $19.66 is left per order after fees, blank, packaging and label, before your time. That's roughly $79 per machine-hour at 4 tumblers an hour. Profit depends on price, not the machine: at $24 the same tumbler leaves about $6 after 15 minutes of paid labor.
